David and Ruth Ann Arthurs

(Updated on March 3, 2008)

The Arthurs have been on Pohnpei running a AM and FM radio station 24 hours a day for 20 years. They have been active on the mission field in several countries for over 40 years, and are looking for a family to come and work with them with the idea of taking over this ministry in the near future. Anyone interested should contact the Mission Office.

The Bvumbwe Bible College Building is our most pressing special project. We have already bought the land for this project, and this will be a Bible College building for 100 students. The cost of this project is $7,000.00 USD.

We currently have three special needs:

  1. Aierdi water heaters. The plumbing project at the farmhouse is going forward. There is a small brick addition being built behind the house where we plan to install three water heater units. Until then we will continue to use cold water! Thanks for praying for finances for these!
  2. Church piano. The piano we have was given to us years ago and was already quite old. We are hoping to buy a good electronic piano that would not have the same maintenance needs. These are quite pricey here in Europe, ranging from $2,000.00 – $2,500.00
    Financial prayer request: $2,500.00
  3. Zumarraga project. We are praying for this city and hoping God will soon help us get a Bible study going in it, and finally a church. Our son Danny is heading up the evangelistic literature and offering a Gospel of John Bible Study to all who want it. The printing expense for these will run about $1000.00.

We currently have three special needs:

  1. Vehicle - We are finding that with our family of six and two in car seats that the five passenger sedan we are using is just not working out. The car is also 12 years old and so all the little things are going wrong with it. The cities here in the interior are such that we are praying about basing out of a centralized city to reach others surrounding it. ($15,000)
  2. We are in need of someone to take over the ministry here when we return home on furlough. Our goal is to begin furlough in August of 2008.
  3. We are in need of funds to purchase tickets for our upcoming furlough

(Updated on April 15, 2008)

We are nearing the end of deputation, and preparing to go to the field in April 2008. Specific needs towards that end are funds towards tickets and shipping, as well as a new vehicle in Chili and Kristen's language school.

The Lord has graciously given us the privilege and challenge of purchasing church property. We seek help with closing costs due on January 10, 2008 and $2000 for signs to identify the church in the community. Further info is in the December Special Update letter.

Our daughter Hilary has applied to attend BJU this coming fall. Please pray with us that the Lord will provide the needed finances for her travel and schooling. Please contact us for more information if you would be interested in helping with the finances.

Our projects right now are immigration v isas and passage. Immigration fees could range upwards to $4,000. Another missionary spent $4,000 to get his residence visa a couple of years ago. Our immigration process has just started this month with the first fee of $75; the next phase will cost around $400, and shortly after that there will be a fee of $500. This last fee may be duplicated for Kim as well. Other fees follow as the process gets approved. Passage funds will be calculated later this year.

The Lord has miraculously provided for our building project and we want to give Him the praise and glory. So far, all that has been done is paid for. Much has been accomplished, and we are praying to be able to occupy the building in March of 2008. Before that happens we have two increments to pay the contractor that totals about $38,000, which we already have. However we will need additional funds to pay for a baptistry, platform, air conditioning, duct work, and grading of the parking area. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Our folks are giving and praying and laboring to save and we are trusting the Lord to provide.

We are trying to establish the Pohnpei Baptist Church Camp on land already owned. Initially we would like to build 10 cabins at a cost of $450/cabin. In addition we will need a boat for transportation to the island, which will cost $6,000; and a generator which will cost around $3,000.

God was very gracious to provide for all of the needs that came up last year. He provide the money to pay for all the construction that was done as well as other major expenses. He was faithful to meet every need, and I praise Him! We have several special projects for 2008. For a complete list, please see the prayer letter titled March 2008-Special Projects.

(Updated on March 7, 2008)

We currently have four special needs:

  1. Construction of a Radio Station building: we have the funds for the equipment but we need to build a permanent building. The radio will have the capacity to reach nearly 1 million people when finally installed. The cost for the building is approximately $15,000.
  2. Construction of a young ladies home: this ministry will reach out to the many prostitutes, single mothers (during and after pregnancy), and other young ladies who need special help. Our goals are to win them to Christ, teach them skills for living (reading, writing, cooking, a trade skill such as sewing), and help them to understand God’s purpose for their life. The cost for this endeavor is approximately $100,000.
  3. A Beka Flash-A-Card Bible Stories (full set). Cost: $630. I would like to use them to teach Sunday School out here in our church. Other national teachers as well as missionaries would be able to borrow and use them as well. One of the main reasons we’d rather use Flash-A-Card than flannel-graph is that the wind (the rooms have large open windows and the walls have bricks with large holes to allow air to pass through—for coolness) keeps blowing our flannel-graph stories off the board during the lesson. With Flash-A-Card stories, you hold the card up while you teach. The kids LOVE the nice big pictures. A Beka has almost the whole Bible on these cards (all the major stories).
  4. Church benches for the newly constructed church. There is a fund started at World Wide for church benches. Each bench costs $64.

We currently have two special projects:

James and Jennifer Parvis

(Updated on March 3, 2008)

The Parvis Family is asking you to partner in prayer with them so they can buy or build a home in the fall of 2008. They currently live and travel in a 35 ft. 5th wheel camper and have raised 20% of their support thus far. They would like to have a home large enough so they can house missionaries and preachers traveling through the East Coast of North Carolina. With God all things are possible.

Jack and Melinda Peeler

(Updated on January 7, 2008)

We have a need for a metal brake to do vinyl siding. The cost of one is about $1,000. There have been several times that we could have saved the price of renting one. This is the type of equipment that would be good for years.

We are headed to Ghana for 12-18 months on April 28, 2008. We stand in need of between $3000.00 and $4000.00 for the necessary supplies, plane tickets, visas, immunizations, tools - which will have to be left with the missionary, etc. Thanks for your help and prayers for us.---We have a need for a metal brake to do vinyl siding. National Pastor Benjamin Cortes is in need of $3000 to cover the cost of an emergency surgery. Also, we are in need of $5000 to complete the construction of two buildings for our newest mission outreaches.

Alejandro and Josefina Sanchez

(Updated on March 3, 2008)

Our project is the translation into Spanish of the four-book-set named The Fundamentals (Los Fundamentos). We already have the first book translated, and are beginning the second. We would like to print at least 1,000 copies when it will be finished. We are still working on that. I have formed a translating committee so now there are six people translating. We have no idea of how much it is going to cost, but would like to have funds reserved so once the translation is complete there will be no delays in printing. There is a “Fundamentals Fund” at World Wide.

Jimmy and Sharon Watson

(Updated on March 3, 2008)

As our ministry is growing we find ourselves in great need of a van to transport people to and from church, youth activities, etc. We have found such a van, and are hoping that there are those that would be interested in giving towards this purchase. If you are able to help, please send donations to our mission agency with a note indicating that it is for the Watson's van. In addition, we are always in need of good Spanish books on strengthening the family, such as Bible commentaries, books on managing money, and books on leadership.

Paul and Marilyn Woody

(Updated on July 7, 2007)

We have a very important project that weare working on at this time. This project will require:

  1. A lot of prayer.
  2. A miracle from God.
  3. A lot of money.

We have established an Independent Baptist church here in the Dominican Republic and God has given us a good group of people. We are currently training the leadership and men to take over the work through our Bible Institute. Our greatest need at this time is a piece of land to build our church building on. Land is very scarce in the capital and very expensive.

We currently have a membership of 42 and the church has started its own building fund with 10% of their tithes going into their fund each month. (The fund is currently at about $1650 US.) We have also started a Dominican Republic building fund with World Wide (which is currently at $80 US).

I am currently putting together a new presentation of our ministry here in the Dominican Republic which I would be glad to share with anyone who is interested. If you would like more details about the project please write and let me know and I will be glad to answer any questions.
